Abstract

Background: vertical infection by SARS-CoV-2 in newborns has little evidence; however, there are more and more cases that support this possibility. On the other hand, although infections at this age are usually mild, their behavior has not been seen in neonates born at a higher altitude above sea level. Case report: We present a neonate with a high probability of having contracted a vertical infection by SARS-CoV-2, which had a torpid evolution with the need for oxygen support and which in turn associated radiological findings of significant lung damage demonstrated by tomography. The patient showed slow improvement and could be discharged at 14 days of life without showing oxygen dependence. Conclusions: This case exposes our limited knowledge of the behavior of this disease in neonates born at height.
