Advancing pediatric research: a breakthrough in postgraduate training via collaborative supervision.

Abstract
Residents in the country's medical-surgical programs face significant challenges when undertaking their thesis work. These difficulties include constant time pressure due to their busy clinical schedules, the need to acquire research skills, complexity in accessing specialized resources, and a lack of proper guidance. Therefore, it is imperative to address these systemic barriers and provide a supportive environment that enables residents to overcome these challenges and develop their clinical research competencies successfully.
The Postgraduate Programs in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of the Andes stand out for their focus on developing essential competencies for specialized medical practice, emphasizing practice-based learning and continuous improvement. Research is integrated into the training, with the requirement to conduct research as part of their degree work. Supervised collaborative research is a model that involves residents in shared projects, promoting interaction between students, professors, and affiliated hospitals with the aim of generating high-impact scientific research in healthcare.
This opinion article describes the initial successful experiences of the supervised collaborative approach in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of the Andes. This initiative aims to inspire and guide future research and educational programs in the field of healthcare, providing a valuable framework for generating knowledge and addressing challenges in medical practice, thus contributing to scientific advancement in the medical field.
