Amniotic band syndrome: case report and literature review
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: An amniotic band syndrome is a group of congenital anomalies caused by fibrous rings secondary to early rupture of the amnion, generating everything from minor constrictions and lymphedema to complex anomalies that require limb amputation. Case report: A full-term newborn patient with amniotic bands syndrome producing vascular compression and lymphedema at the right lower limb. Magnetic resonance angiography reported severe lymphedema with involvement of the right foot, possibly secondary to a constriction ring, without vascular malformations. The patient underwent decompressive fasciotomy (Z-plasty) in 2 stages with an excellent clinical response. Conclusions: This article reviews the literature and presents a clinical case of amniotic band syndrome managed surgically with improved lymphedema and reconstruction of the lower right limb.
