Abstract

Objective: To characterize the patients with acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL) who received the BFM-ALL IC-2009 protocol in the induction phase between 2014 and 2019 at IMAT clinic in Montería, Cordoba, Colombia. Methods: In the induction phase, a retrospective cross-sectional study of pediatric patients diagnosed with ALL, in whom the BFM-ALL-IC-2009 protocol was applied—characterizing the population according to origin and sex and identifying associations with sociodemographic variables through an ordinal logistic regression. Results: Data from 50 patients were included, with a mean age at diagnosis of 5.8 years 95% CI, 4.7- 6.89. The sex of the patients was of similar proportions, being women 52% (n=26) of the cases. The principal admission diagnosis was suspected lymphoproliferative disease 54% (n=27), followed by hematological abnormalities (bicytopenia 28% (n=14). The final stratification was associated with a more severe stage in older patients (p=0-025 OR: 1.204. 95% CI, 1.023-1.418, as well as those belonging to Alto Sinú (p=0.036. OR: 15.76. 95% CI, 1.195-207.8. Two patients presented extramedullary infiltrations, and two died. Conclusion: 84 % of patients diagnosed with ALL, who received the BFM ALLIC-2009 protocol in the induction phase, maintained their stratification at the end of the phase. Patients from Alto Sinú presented high or intermediate stratification, one of them with testicular infiltration. The most frequent complications were infectious processes (pneumonia, urosepsis, and grade I mucositis due to Staphylococcus aureus).
